Everyone wants to collect and preserve their memories, but very few of us have the time to sit and clip and crop and create elaborate scrapbooks. Smash books are the newest incarnation of the quick and easy memory keeper.
So what is a smash book? Basically it’s a way to capture your memories and life moments in the moment. It gets to the root of scrapbooking. And back to the way I used to keep my keepsakes.
When I was a kid, I had a 12×12 book with kraft paper pages that I glued my memorabilia into using rubber cement or elmers glue or whatever I had handy. Usually these were newspaper clippings or concert programs with a few snap shots. Then I’d scribble what it was from in the margin in the pencil or pen or marker or crayon I had handy. You get the idea. Not very elegant, but it was a great way for a kid to keep mementos.
When I grew up a little, I started printing my photos (no more polaroids!) and arranging them in photo albums using photo corners. And again I’d scribble a caption or an idea next to the picture. Then I met a group of ‘scrapbookers’! These girls were serious! They had these elaborate layouts that would take them all day to create and would have one tiny picture with tons of embellishments and ribbons and buttons and, WOW! that was overwhelming. I started to fancy up my picture albums a little, but they remained mostly photobooks with a few maps or trinkets glued in. Since I found My Digital Studio, I have made most of my scrapbooks using my digital pictures and the software. Sometimes I consciously leave space to stick in some tickets or a map, but most of the time all the goodies I’ve saved have no place to go and wind up in a ziploc bag in a shoebox.
Enter Smash Books! It’s like a hybrid of my favorite composition book scribbled with ideas and my paper scrapbooks. I can smoosh ticket stubs, an instgram pic printed right off my phone through postal pix and the napkin from the coffee shop we stopped along the way all on a page with a quick note about an awesome day at the aquarium with the kids. I can write my thoughts as they happen since this book is small enough to fit in my purse or my glove compartment.
As you can see, I’m a little excited about this. And right now, Stampin Up is offering a bundle of everything you need to create your first Smash Book for the awesome price of $32.08!
