Last week I posted about making bottle cap magnets, but I figure there’s a few of you who were sitting there thinking “how the heck do you flatten a bottle cap?” It’s really pretty simple actually, once you get over the fear of breaking your big shot! It won’t break, I promise!
I take some clean bottle caps and put them all face down on my cutting sheet. I place the second clear cutting sheet on top and run the sandwich through the Big Shot. You have to really crank it, but don’t worry, it’ll go through. And on the other side, you’ll have some nice flattened bottle caps.
Here’s a video if you’d like to watch me do a few:
I try not to do more than 2 or 3 at a time, mostly because they shift around a little and I don’t get as nice a flattened edge as I like. Of course, you could always go the easy route and order a package of 16 Soda Pop Tops for only $3.95. I never think of that in time, and I kind of like smashing my own, but they finished ones in the Spring catalog are really very fancy.
So there you have it! How to flatten bottle caps using your Big Shot Machine!
